Kim Chan’s Comic on Subtle and Blatant White Supremacy in Queens
“Queens, I love you, but you’re bringing me down” is a 16 page comic about subtle and blatant white supremacist ideology in Queens. With a deeply compelling personal narrative and beautifully drawn images, artist Kimberly Chan documents the racial justice protests of 2020 alongside anti-blackness in the Asian community.
Kim, a northeast Queens artist and native-born resident,” that permeates in the world’s borough, accompanied by Kim’s personal feelings and reflections. Kim notes “It documents the subtle and blatant acts of white supremacy from people threatening peaceful protestors, to microagressions, to political candidates who are so pro police it minimizes the suffering Black Americans experience and the positive change they want for their lives, things other Americans take for granted or do not need to worry about. I also address issues our AAPI community needs to address and fix internally. "
